Hello 6R1 & 6R4 2014

Now at least I have a good reason to revisit my blog and make use of it.
TO MY 6R1 & 6R4 CLASSES:

Oh dear, I've done it again. Neglecting this blog. Been busy, of course. Haha.. my posting will eventually be an annual activity if I keep neglecting to do it.

Okay.. once again.. this year the sixth formers took part in the annual preuniversity cocurricular carnival. For English, there were the public speaking  & english sketch competitions. We didn't win any of the top three positions in both competitions. Other schools, of course, were much better than us. Next year (with the next batch of students), we will strive harder.

When we first sent our entry form for the English Sketch competition we were disqualified because we didn't follow the competition guidelines requiring 3 Malay actors and 3 others from other races. We had 3 Chinese, 2 Indians & 1 Malay. My fault as the teacher who took for granted that there was no race issue in the competiton rule like the year before (we had 2 each of Malay, Chinese and Indian in last year's team). So at the last minute, we decided to still enter (for the sake of taking part) and therefore made the last minute changes to the script and list of actors. We did the best we could in the short time we had. I will try to upload the sketch we did as soon as I finished editing the video. (Be patient ah...!)

Training and Sharing of Google Applications @ SMK Skudai

From the Google Apps we were exposed to during CALL class, my partner Siti Aisyah and I decided to share the knowledge with a few teachers at SMK Skudai. We chose to share the Google Form and IF formula and the Google Presentation with the teachers who volunteered to be our participants: Pn Noriza Hamid, Pn Lua Geok Chiau, Pn Rasyidah Md Nawi, Cik Hasniti Irwa, Cik Noraini Yusof and Cik Normila. The response was very positive. Pn Noriza has now collected her students' e-mail addresses and couldn't wait to share the new application learnt with them (the Google Form - for quizzes and exercises). As usual, in the excitement of training and sharing the knowledge, I forgot to take pictures - can only show you some parts of the slides we used. Also present to observe us were our two great tutors: Ideh and Safinaz.

A lot more happened in May (since my last posting) but I was too busy with quizzes, assignments, presentations and school exam that I couldn't devote much time to update anything. 15th May especially is a special date every year (my birthday!). This year 6A4 decided to help me celebrate it. First they sang the Selamat Hari Jadi (Happy Birthday)song and then gave me an empty box (cheeky!); next they sang the Selamat Hari Ibu (Mother's Day) & Selamat Hari Guru (Teacher's Day) songs and aptly presented a cake written with all three wishes - Happy Mother, Teacher, Birth- day. Thank you 6A4... you made my day! Then at home, my family also presented me with a cake written with all three wishes too - well.. it's a cakes-all-around day!

The cake my family gave me

Also, in the morning the school launched the fund collection drive for the much needed 'dewan terbuka'. Hopefully many will donate and help the school to speed up its construction.

16th May - Teacher's day.. unfortunatey I forgot to take any pictures! Just enjoying the show by the students.

Voting day - 5 May 2013

Yes, 5th May is the voting day and recorded the best voter turn out in Malaysia voting history. Many places recorded more than 80% voter turn out. This year an additional security measure is introduced - the use of indelible ink on voter's fingers to ensure no double voting takes place. In the picture below are mine and my husband's fingers painted in the indelible blue ink. The ink was supposed to last for a few days but some people claimed it was almost gone as soon as they washed it off with dish washing liquid! Voting is one of our rights as Malaysian citizens and a responsibility that every one should carry out. Make your voice heard by casting your votes whenever there is an election.
